Terms and conditions

The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Huntley Studio, Los Angeles, California ("we", "us"), for use of Fieldnote, our AI brand strategist and content scripting software. By creating an account or using Fieldnote, you accept these terms. If you use Fieldnote for a company, you confirm you can bind that company to them.

Accounts

You must be at least 18 to subscribe, and at least 13 to use Fieldnote. Give accurate account information, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone is using your account. You are responsible for activity that happens under your login.

Subscriptions, trials and billing

Fieldnote is offered as monthly subscriptions: Creator, Founder and Agency, at the prices shown on our pricing page. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel before then at no cost.

Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel. Cancel anytime from your account; your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Switching plans is prorated. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never store your card details. Prices may change with reasonable notice, and changes never affect your current billing period.

Because access continues through a period you have paid for, payments are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.

Your content

You own everything you bring to Fieldnote: your interview answers, stories, recordings, documents, and the scripts, quotes and captions we generate for you. We claim no ownership of any of it.

You give us a limited license to store, transcribe, analyze and process your content, and to send it to our AI, transcription and messaging providers, solely to operate Fieldnote for you. This license ends when your content is deleted.

You confirm you have the right to the content you submit, and that recording or texting in the voices and stories of others complies with their consent and local law.

Optional SMS and MMS messaging

By texting your personal Fieldnote link code to (213) 277-9414, you consent to receive account-link confirmations, voice-memo confirmations and story follow-up questions from Fieldnote. Message frequency varies based on your activity, with up to three follow-up questions per story. Message and data rates may apply. No marketing messages are sent, and consent is not a condition of purchase.

Reply STOP to opt out and unlink your phone. You will receive an opt-out confirmation. Reply HELP for support information, or contact Huntley Studio through huntleystudio.com. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Acceptable use

Do not use Fieldnote to create unlawful content, harass or impersonate people, infringe others' rights, spread malware, probe or overload our systems, or abuse your text-in number for spam. We may suspend accounts that do, and we may remove content that breaks the law.

The service and AI output

Fieldnote is software, offered as is. We work hard to keep it available and improving, but we may change, pause or discontinue features from time to time. AI-generated scripts are drafts: review them before you publish, and you remain responsible for anything you post. Fieldnote is not professional legal, financial or medical advice.

Third-party services

Fieldnote connects to services such as Google (sign-in), Twilio (text messaging), Stripe (payments) and Portalist (script hand-offs you choose to export). Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services, and you use them at your option.

Cancellation and termination

You can cancel your subscription or delete your account at any time. We can suspend or end accounts for serious or repeated breaches of these terms, with notice where practical. When your account ends, we delete your content as described in our privacy policy.

Disclaimers and liability

Fieldnote is provided without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for anything related to Fieldnote is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential damages.

Disputes and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If something goes wrong, contact us first and we will try to fix it. Any formal dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, and continued use after that means you accept the updated terms.
